Anti-de Sitter Black Holes, Thermal Phase Transition and Holography in Higher Curvature Gravity

چکیده
We study anti-de Sitter black holes and evaluate different thermodynamic quantities in the EinsteinGauss-Bonnet and the general R2 gravity theories. We examine the possibility of Hawking-Page type thermal phase transitions between AdS black hole and thermal anti-de Sitter space in such theories. In Einstein theory with a possible cosmological term, one observes a Hawking-Page phase transition only if the event horizon is a hypersurface of positive constant curvature (k = 1). But in EinsteinGauss-Bonnet gravity there can occur a similar transition even for a horizon of negative constant curvature (k = −1), which may allow one to study the boundary conformal theory with different background geometries. For the Gauss-Bonnet black holes, one can relate the entropy of the black hole as measured at horizon to a variation of the geometric property of the horizon based on first law and Noether charge. With (Riemann)2 terms, however, we can do this only approximately, and the two results agree in the limit rH >> L, the size of the horizon is much bigger than the AdS curvature. In (Riemann)2 gravity, we establish certain relations between bulk data associated with the AdS black hole in five dimensions and boundary data defined on the horizon of the AdS geometry , in which case we do not expect a sensible holographic dual. We also give a heuristic approach to estimate the difference between Hubble entropy and Bakenstein-Hawking entropy with (Riemann)2 term. Email: [email protected] E-mail: [email protected]

In this paper, the rotating black brane solutions with zero curvature horizon of classical gravity with first order string corrections are introduced. Although these solutions are not asymptotically anti de Sitter, one can use the counterterm method in order to compute the conserved quantities of these solutions. Here, by reviewing the counterterm method for asymptotically anti de Sitter spac...

We study thermodynamic properties and phase structures of topological black holes in Einstein theory with a Gauss-Bonnet term and a negative cosmological constant. The event horizon of these topological black holes can be a hypersurface with positive, zero or negative constant curvature. When the horizon is a zero curvature hypersurface, the thermodynamic properties of black holes are completel...

Recent developments linking non-perturbative quantum gauge theories in Minkowski space to classical gravity theories in anti-de-Sitter space are reviewed at a simple level. It is suggested how these spectacular advances may be extended to discuss the quark-gluon phase transition in terms of black holes in anti-de-Sitter space, with possible relevance to heavy-ion collisions.

We investigate the thermodynamics of a four-dimensional charged black hole in a finite cavity in asymptotically flat and asymptotically de Sitter space. In each case, we find a Hawking-Page-like phase transition between a black hole and a thermal gas very much like the known transition in asymptotically anti-de Sitter space. For a " supercooled " black hole—a thermodynamically unstable black ho...

The issue of radiant spherical black holes being in stable thermal equilibrium with their radiation bath is reconsidered. Using a simple equilibrium statistical mechanical analysis incorporating Gaussian thermal fluctuations in a canonical ensemble of isolated horizons, the heat capacity is shown to diverge at a critical value of the classical mass of the isolated horizon, given (in Planckian u...
